How I got here
I still train under Shifu Wen Linjun but at the moment he
is very busy with his studies, back and forth to China, so I only
get to see him once a month at the moment.
My main Shifu at present is Shifu Liu Quanjun, who has trained at
the Shaolin Temple in Song Shan, Henan, China since the age of 15.
He also trains with Shifu Chen Zhenglei, of Chenjiagou, Henan, China
where he studied Chen style Taiji. Shifu Liu currently teaches in
Archway and Camden Town, North London.
And that's my story, from that very first night to the present day
and hopefully many more years to come, I have been totally hooked
on Chinese martial arts and all aspects of Chinese culture. Unfortunately
there was none of that "started training at 8 years old"
for me, I was a creaky, un-flexible, uncoordinated 25 year old.
Through perseverance, pain and hard work, driven by my fascination
and obsession, I have achieved a certain amount of success. I also
continue to train with the "Wushucircle"
a body put together by Shifu Wens senior students to help us keep
in touch and to continue to develop as a group. What I love most
is that it never ends, if I trained for a thousand years I couldn’t
learn the entire Chinese panoply of Martial Arts.
Sharing the knowledge I have built over the years (with the help
of my Shifus, my boxing brothers & sisters and my ever present
books!) with my students is very rewarding and also helps me to
continue seeking answers to my questions and to train harder.
I hope the future is as bright as the past.
