Energy Work
Internal energy or Qi is moved around the body using the mind
and movements to strengthen and heal. Qigong and acupuncture use
the same pathways inside the body called "meridians". These are
similar to the veins and arteries of the blood system, only the
meridians carry the inherent energy of all living things. Qigong
does not come quickly to most beginners. A great deal of time
and daily practise slowly develops the correct mind focus, body
relaxation and gradual building of energy. A practitioner becomes
aware of the true nature of Qigong and it's ability to relax and
energize.
Among the martial types of Qigong are Baduan Jing (8 pieces of
Brocade), Yijin Jing (Muscle/Tendon Change Classic) and Jin Zhong
Zhao (Golden Bell or Iron Shirt). The first two of these exercises
enhance the physical form, the third develops the internal energy
in such a way as to protect the body from physical attack.
Shifu Wen's studies were rewarded in 1988 when he was presented
with a national award for his thesis on Qigong. His ongoing classes
at present cover Baduan Jing and Zhenyuan Gong.
